Steve LandryBill & Melinda Gates Foundation Dr. Steve Landry is responsible for the New Vaccine Delivery team which provides support both to accelerate the evaluation and introduction of new vaccines and related technologies as well as support for national efforts to improve the systems for delivering these products. Dr. Landry is the focal point for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s engagement in the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), the principle Foundation investment in this portfolio. Prior to joining the foundation in 2004, Dr. Landry was the Senior Director of Program Financing for the GAVI Fund. From 1998 to 2004, while working for USAID, Dr. Landry worked with the GAVI partners to determine how to support countries to sustain the immunization program improvements initiated with GAVI resources. For much of that time he served as Co-chair of the GAVI Financing Task Force.
Prior to working with the GAVI Fund, Dr. Landry worked with USAID for over 13 years, the last 3 years as a Senior Policy Advisor. In that capacity he worked on GAVI, GAIN and other multilateral health initiatives. Before that he served as the project officer for USAID’s Children’s Vaccine Program and the Malaria Vaccine Development Program. Dr. Landry began his career in international development in the Peace Corps, where he served as a science teacher at a rural high school in Liberia. He holds a Ph.D. in medical entomology and vector borne disease modeling from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
